Couplet Poems
Martin Luther King was not a king.
He did not have horses, a crown, or anything.
He preached a lot and had a dream
Of everybody eating ice cream.
I wish I had a
hamster and a cat
My cat would chase a rat and sleep on a mat.
The wheels on the
bus go through the mud, splatter!
Just like a whisk steering through cookie batter.
When the bus comes to a stop,
My ears make a loud pop!
I leave the bus and go into my house,
Where I witness something, it’s a mouse!
I am hungry now, time for a snack.
I wonder when my mom will come back?
The phone rings,
The door dings.
My mom’s on the phone,
With a funny tone!
I begin to wonder who is at the door.
Oh, who cares, too busy to check, my leg’s sore.
I look out the window at the birds,
Then down at my paper filled with words.
I am writing some couplets for school,
Oh how I wish to be in the pool.
My homework is done.
Guess it’s time for some fun!
My mom has finally reached home.
I guess it’s the end of the poem!

The Mayan Ruins
we’re going to see
Mom, dad, my brother, sister and me.
We will climb up big hills and old stairs.
Hopefully not through mountains with bears.
Down and right across the river,
My knees are starting to quiver.
As we get on the hand controlled ferry,
Under the trees filled with big bright red berries.
I see a giant iguana on a tree.
Next to it a bumble bee, waiting to flee.
My garage is a
house to my bike,
a trail is a house to a hike.
A stage is a house to a play,
while a barn is home to some hay.
A teacup is a house to a spoon,
and the sky is a house to the moon.
A hive is home to a bee,
and I'm glad there's a house for me!
The sun shines so
brightly reflecting over the water.
And if you look closely you can see a sea otter.
The ocean breeze blows my hair
As if it didn't have a care.
The sea looks as smooth as glass
As a seagull flies past.
